We were just talking about the idea of a Pixel 7 tablet device, and honestly, these Amazon Fire tablets are some of the closest things someone can get to that. The interesting tablets in the new lineup are the Fire HD 10 and Fire HD 10 Plus.
And while there are plenty of sweet apps and games over there, it’s not the same. While these tablets run a forked version of Android, Amazon is quite clear that Google Play is not supported on these tablets, meaning you’ll need to get all of your apps and content from the company’s own app store. The dashboard shows the state of each device and allows you to change its state, but if you want to add or manage a device, you’ll still need to do that through the Alexa app.Amazon detailed a bunch of new Fire tablets this morning, and while I’m sure they’re fine for those totally committed to Amazon’s ecosystem, they serve little purpose to us who have given our lives and data over to Google. You can pin certain devices to keep them at the front of the list and recently used smart devices will be closer to the front as well. Lower down is a grid of individual smart home devices that can be customized. The Smart Dashboard features quick toggles at the top to turn on or off all lights, switches, or plugs at once. The dashboard is currently rolling out, so it may not yet be available on your comaptible tablet. It’s unknown if Amazon will be adding the dashboard to older tablet models in the future. The dashboard is currently only available on the latest Fire 7 (2019) tablet, latest Fire HD 8 (2020) and Fire HD 8 Plus (2020) tablet, latest Fire HD 10 (2019) tablet, as well as the previouse generation 2018 Fire HD 8 tablet. Placement here makes it available from anywhere, including the tablets lock screen, so the dashbaord is always just one tap away. The new Smart Home Dashboard for Fire tablets can be accessed by selecting the new house-shaped icon added to the bottom left of the navigation bar. Similar to the smart home dashboard available on Echo Show devices and the dashboard available on Fire TVs, this tablet dashboard gives you quick access to control smart lights, plugs, thermostats, cameras, and more. Amazon has added a new Smart Home Dashboard to a few of their newer Fire 7, Fire HD 8, and Fire HD 10 tablets.
